Federalism, Localism & Subsidiarity
What's the single most impactful thing your city council could do?
City councils control more of your daily life than Congress does. They set zoning, police priorities, school funding, transit investments, housing policy, and business licensing. The decisions that determine whether your neighborhood is walkable, affordable, safe, and vibrant happen at city hall.
But most city council elections have turnout under 15%. The decisions that most affect people's lives get the least attention.
What specific local decision would have the largest positive impact on your community right now? Zoning reform to allow more housing and reduce prices? A real transit investment? Police reform that changes how officers interact with residents? Business licensing reform to reduce barriers for entrepreneurs? School funding equity?
Be specific: not "improve schools" but "what specific change to school funding, governance, or policy would actually move the needle in your city?" Not "fix housing" but "which local rule would you eliminate or change first?"
One concrete answer per person. What's yours?
